DRILL INSTRUCTIONS
Shoutout to Dan Reedy from Primer Peak as we used his article to build this drill! This drill is shot with a retention holster. If you are using a holster with no retention outside of the kydex and not from concealment, add .25 seconds to every string. Unfortunately there is no way to run this drill with accurate time penalties for those that can’t draw from a holster at their range. We are giving additional time to complete this drill to give those an opportunity to find the space to shoot over the holidays!
String 1: Place the target at 10 feet, firing 2x rounds in 1.5 seconds
String 2: Place the target at 20 feet, firing 2x rounds in 2 seconds
String 3: Place the target at 30 feet. Fire 2x rounds, conduct a slide lock reload, then fire 2x rounds in 6 seconds
String 4: Place the target at 60 feet, firing 2 rounds in 3.5 seconds
Goodluck everyone! This is a deceptively hard drill despite the low round count. Don’t be afraid to post your failed submissions for feedback from our trainer Paul Whaley!
AUTHOR NOTES
The Old Bakersfield PD Qual was designed close to 4 decades ago by the late Mike Waidelich. This is a hard drill, and comes from an era before optics on handguns, quality kydex holsters, and the wealth of shooting knowledge that we have today. We’ve got tight par times for each stage, but the overall scoring allows us to have some flexibility here. It’s all about accuracy and speed. This is really meant to push your limits, and to get you figuring out “how fast is too fast” for your own skill. Minimum passing score is 80 points, but if you can get a 90 or higher, I’d consider that to be a sign of a really quite advanced shooter.
