September DOTM: Bill Drill

The Bill Drill is a classic, low round-count pressure test that pairs draw speed with recoil management and shot-calling. It’s pure fundamentals: grip, sights, trigger, cadence. Like most of our monthly picks, it’s solo-friendly and easily run on a single target with minimal setup required.

August DOTM | Failure to Stop x2: Pistol

The Double Failure to Stop Drill with a reload as written is made to push the shooter to get out of their comfort zone, and break past a cadence of bang-bang-pause-bang. Much like my rifle version of this drill, the primary time gain here is to reflexively make the micro-motion to acquire the head shot, and have all three shots per target have the same split time.

DOTM: Can You SHO & WHO?

The “Can You SHO & WHO” Drill is a straightforward, low round count exercise that is all about one-handed shooting. Building skill in Strong Hand Only (SHO) & Weak Hand Only (WHO) shooting will make you a better shooter as a whole, and low round count drills make that even easier.

DOTM: Low-High Reload

The Low–High Reload Drill is a straightforward, low round count exercise that blends fundamentals with shot placement prioritization and a reload under mild pressure. It introduces visual transition control and emphasizes accountability on both speed and accuracy.

DOTM – Modified Devil Drill (6-6-6)

The Devil Drill was created by Larry Vickers. It is a simple, low round count drill that works in a drawstroke, a reload, and accurate shooting. There’s only one string of fire for this drill too. We’ve modified it for competition purposes, using a fixed reload point and hit factor scoring.

April Rifle Drill of the Month: Mozambique x2

The Mozambique Drill as modified here is quite simple. Setup 2 USPSA Standard targets 7 yards from the starting line with a 5-foot spacing between targets. The start position is a compressed high or low ready with the stock under or over the shoulder respectively.

On the audible sound of the buzzer, engage target one with 3 rounds–two to the body and one to the head–, perform a mandatory reload, and engage target two in the same fashion. Alphas are required for all four body shots. The two head shots are not required to be alphas. The maximum par time for the drill is 6.50 seconds. Let’s see some action!

Thrill of the Bill Drill

Thrill of the Bill Drill is a USPSA Classifier stage commonly seen at Level 1 matches. It takes the traditional Bill Drill and adds modifiers for strings 2 & 3. There will be no penalty for using an OWB holster this month however anyone who shoots this drill from low ready due to range restrictions needs to add 1.3 seconds on to each string. Targets are placed 7 yards away from the firing line, 2 feet apart from each other. If shooting this indoors, make sure to use 3 fresh targets and continuously record.

Dialed in Training’s 5 Yard Round Up

4 strings of fire. Par time of 2.5 seconds for each stage. 1.3 second penalty if shooter performs String 1 from low ready, rather than drawing from a holster. If using an open rig (non-concealed, no active retention), .5 second penalty for String 1. A NR8 B8 can be used for printing restrictions however outside shots must be measured to score.

X-Ray Alpha MXAD: RIFLE

This drill was designed by Matt Pranka originally for handguns! We modified it for a rifle variant at the recommendation of Roof Korean from Firearms and Firearm Accessories.
