September DOTM: Designated Target Drill

The challenge is not remembering to shoot four targets. It is repeatedly leaving a known target, aggressively finding a new one, firing two controlled shots, and immediately driving your vision and gun back to the Designated Target before moving on again.

August DOTM: 2nd Servings Drill

2nd Servings is a rifle transition and reload drill built around repeating the same two-target shooting problem in reverse. The first half begins and ends on the farther 20-yard target. After the mandatory reload, the second half begins and ends on the closer 7-yard target.

June DOTM: Easy AS 1-2-3

Easy as 1-2-3 is a reload-control drill built around one simple idea: shoot the required number of rounds, then immediately do the next thing. This drill forces you to stay mentally engaged through the entire string. You are not waiting for the slide to lock back, you are not relying on the gun to tell you when to reload, and you are not casually finishing a shooting problem before remembering what comes next. The challenge is not just speed. It is clean execution.

May DOTM: The Reverse Konami Code

The Reverse Konami Code is a drill of my own creation, and draws inspiration from the classic videogame cheat code. I wanted to make a drill that requires quick torso shots, but requires some deliberate shooting for good eyebox hits. I’m really a fan of the tighter scoring area of the eyebox, and am happy to work it back into one of our DOTMs.

April DOTM: The Blake Drill

The Blake Drill is a speed and transition focused drill. If you’ve been shooting Drill of the Month with us for a while now you’ve seen a variety of speed and accuracy focused drills. Now lets focus on getting from target to target. Realistically you should be shooting for the same par time you’ve set for yourself on a Bill Drill. If 2.5 is your best run for that exercise, shoot for 2.5 here. At the end of the day I would love to see as many people break that sub 2 second par time as possible!

March DOTM: Accelerator Drill

The Accelerator is one of the best “truth serum” drills for competitive shooting because it forces you to change gears on demand. The 7-yard target tempts you to blaze, the 20-yard target punishes impatience, and the 15-yard target lives right in that uncomfortable middle where people throw points away.

The goal isn’t just raw speed—it’s learning how to throttle control: drive hard up close, add confirmation as distance increases, then do it all again after a reload when your brain wants to rush.

If you want a clean run, think: snap to the close target, settle for the far target, and don’t let the reload steal your pace. Clean first… then fast.

February DOTM: Hateful A’s Drill

“The Hateful A’s” drill is a modified version of the Hateful 8 drill created by Bill Blowers. Instead of a B-8 target, we’re using a USPSA Standard Torso to speed things up and make the practice translate more directly to competition shooting.

December DOTM: Accelerated Super Test

Level up your handgun fundamentals with the Accelerated Super Test, our Drill of the Month challenge. This timed B8 accuracy drill includes three rapid strings at 5, 10, and 15 yards with a 135-point minimum score requirement. Learn setup, scoring, handicaps, and tips to tighten your groups and improve match-ready consistency.

November DOTM: Split Bill Drill,Hard Mode

This is essentially a double split-Bill drill, but with an emphasis on working some other skills into it. This variant comes from our very own Evo! Setting Up The Drill: Place your two USPSA torso targets downrange, shoulder to shoulder. Shooter then moves back to the 7 yard line to perform the drill.

October DOTM: Paul W. Shotgun Drill

This drill is one of my own creation. The Paul W. Shotgun Drill is essentially a Bill Drill, but modified to work with a wide range of shotguns.
